While You’re Here
Restaurants & Sweet Treats
- Turning Peel — Sourdough pizza, best tiramisu, delicious olives, spectacular beet salad.
- Khao Moo Dang — Perfect cold weather Thai comfort food.
- Fantino — Cozy Italian, cutest vibes.
- Lauretta Jean’s — Pie and sandwiches, what more could you want?
- G-Love — Elevated NW Portland vibes. Honorable mention for their new brunch — it is 10/10. (Spendier side.)
- Fried Egg I’m In Love — Because who doesn’t love a breakfast sandwich where the names are all music related?
- Friendship Kitchen — Delicious Vietnamese in the NW neighborhood.
- Sun Rice — Filipino comfort food that tastes like you are at Lolo and Lola’s.
- Bluefin — Delicious sushi and fantastic happy hour.
- Pizza Thief — Adidas owned and we are a loyal household. Not to mention their pizza is fantastic — honorable mention for their chocolate chip cookie, just trust me.
- Flattop & Salamander — AMAZING brunch. It gets busy but was worth the wait.
- Cheese & Crack — Have you ever had a delicious charcuterie board and after thought, “I wish I had soft serve with a chocolate cowboy hat on it”? Well, you can have both here.
- Kulfi — I will say this until the end of time: this is the BEST ice cream in Portland.
- Rimsky Korsakoffee — If you want kitschy Portland vibes, have a yummy brownie sundae at this old house that looks haunted — but that’s just the bit!
Coffee Shops
- Dragonfly Coffeehouse — The coziest, most nostalgic, eclectic coffee shop in NW Portland.
- Prince Coffee — This is where all the artsy & trendy folk get their coffee and matcha, for FANTASTIC reasons. The flavor combos of their drinks are lovely.
- Project Matcha — Don’t let the trendiness fool you, this is some of the best matcha and hojicha I have found in the city.
- Hypnos — Another place you can find artsy & trendy Portlanders. Honorable mention for their Carrot Cake Latte and their hojicha. Add the foam top — just trust me.
- Mother Foucault’s — Smaller coffee and tea menu, but it is in a library/bookstore that is so beautiful. There is a “no laptop” policy, and I believe you can’t use your phones either, but it is a lovely place to disconnect.
Bars
- Alibi — I wouldn’t be a true regular if I didn’t recommend my favorite karaoke tiki bar.
- After Ours — Filipino owned, amazing Asian bar food. It is a vinyl bar, but they also have DJs on the weekend.
- Panther Club — If a vintage casino and a tattoo parlor had a baby and it was a bar, it would be here. Fantastic drinks, lovely staff, pretty good bar eats.
- Creepy’s — Eclectic clown themed bar, but a great smash burger.
- Laverne’s — Lovely aesthetic and the food gets high praise — I hear their rotisserie chicken is yummy.
- Revolution Hall — They are known for their rooftop, so not sure the time of year is the best for this location, but you never know with Portland!
- Sugar Hill — 1970’s bar with phenomenal drinks, yummy eats, and fun decor. They have a back sitting room and a patio, all with lovely warm orange vibes.
- Cult Classics — If you have any film buffs, this is a really fun place. The back of the bar is lined with VHS tapes and they always have a movie playing. Honorable mention for their $6 hot dog — trust me.
- Paymaster Lounge — Fun bar in NW Portland. Great indoor/outdoor space with pool tables and a covered outdoor area with heaters. They also do a fantastic dirty martini.
- Side Eye Cocktail Lounge — They also play a movie on a projector; speakeasy vibes. Yummy espresso martini.
- Bar Bar — Great indoor/outdoor bar. They play movies outside and have a fantastic burger.
Neighborhoods & Shops to Explore
- NW 23rd — A Portland classic for new visitors. A great neighborhood to hop in and out of the stores and try our infamous Salt & Straw.
- N Williams & Mississippi Ave — Quite a few hidden gems here when it comes to vintage stores and boutiques. If you go up to N Going St there is a lovely queer bookstore called Always Here. If you start on N Williams you are only a few blocks from Mississippi Ave, which also has good hop-in-hop-out shopping — honorable mention for plant lovers to check out Pistils. They even have chickens! Not for purchase, though.
- Hawthorne — I would argue another Portland classic. You will not have a shortage of shops to check out. If you want a dessert waffle, check out the Waffle Window. I also prefer the Powell’s on this street (cozier).
- Alberta Arts District — More fun small stores; leans into the artsy side of Portland.
- Division — Smaller area but lots of great shops.
- Memory Den Vintage Mall — If you have a few hours to kill and LOVE thrifting, this is basically your Disneyland. I believe this is the largest vintage mall in Portland, with multiple stalls and booths.
- Cargo — Another fun store nearby. The downstairs has old vintage furniture while the upstairs has a hodgepodge of clothing, plants, paper goods, etc. Great place to get a souvenir for the trip.
- Sellwood — If you want a break from the city, Sellwood is the cutest neighborhood with plenty of shops. For everything on one street, start at Yours Truly to get a coffee and work your way down. In the same neighborhood you will also find Stars & Stripes, another great spot for thrifting.
- Powell’s Bookstore — If it’s your first time in PDX, you just have to. There’s also a coffee shop inside.
